About Bukit Lawang
Bukit Lawang is located 80 kms away from Medan, in North Sumatra province. The village is famous for the orangutan’s rehabilitation center and as an entrance of the Gunung Leuser National Park, which has been selected by UNESCO for the high value of the biodiversity.
In the primary forest reserve can be found different species of gibbons, macaques, wild elephants and tigers and many insects, butterflies, frogs and a very characteristic flora.

Option 1 : Transport by car from Medan Kuala Namu airport to Bukit Lawang, if your book in advance. Price for the car (until 4 persons) : 46.40 Euros
Option 2 : From airport, take ALS bus to Binjai Terminal Bus (40 000 Rp/ each person). Transport by car from Binjai to Bukit Lawang, if you book in advance. Price for the car (until 4 persons) : 28.50 Euros
Option 3 : Use public transport : take ALS bus from Kuala Namu airport to Binjai (40 000 Rp/ each person), then a bus to Bukit Lawang (20 000 Rp/ each person), then a “becak” to “terminal lama” (10 000 Rp/ each person).
Option 4 : Transport by car from Medan city center or hotel to Bukit Lawang, if you book in advance. Price for the car (until 4 persons) : 35.70 Euros
- By car from airport to Bukit Lawang : about 4h30.
- By bus, from airport to Binjai, the trip should last about 2h30. The last bus from Binjai leaves at 4:30 pm. And from Binjai to Bukit Lawang, you need about 2 hours.
- Then you have to walk for 1 km up the river without crossing it.
